So many people have asked for a general letter about raising chlorine prices. Below I have drafted up a sample letter so you can copy & paste it into a word document & mail it to your customers.

Dear valued customer,

Until now, there has not been a sharp increase in the pool service industry in over 10 years. It may be one of the best values in the service industry. We drive to your home every week, and perform the proper service we agreed upon for about $70 per month. If you divide that $70 by the 4.3 weeks in every month for $16.28 (including taxes). Pretty fair considering that 50% of our customers never pay us until the end of the month, or sometimes the following month.

Our chemical suppliers handed all of us a price increase of over 40% on all chemicals we need to service & balance you pool properly. You will notice a price increase in all of the pool retail stores.

The biggest increase is in the price of bleach. One of the main ingrediets for the production of bleach is sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is in very high demand because it is needed as a raw material in other products not related to the pool business. Our suppliers have tols us point blank, its not only that the price has gone up, we dont even know if we can get the product at the higher prices. Some of the reasons of this price increase is the declining global value of the dollar, rising gas prices, high labor costs to name a few.

Effective Feb 1st 2005, we will be raising your pol service $10 per month. This is only an increase of $2.33 per week. All pool service companies have raised or will be raising their prices.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.

Sincerely,
